Track based acquisition system for vehicle noise emission certification to legal standards
LMS provides a fixed or mobile solution with a strong focus on noise emission evaluation of vehicles against predefined targets or legislative standards like ISO 362, SAE J1470, and upcoming standards. Flexibility of the system allows to perform fast validation tests with no instrumentation inside the vehicle or to extend the system with instrumentation for measurement of vehicle parameters and adapted driver aid display.
Data is acquired through the portable LMS SCADAS 305 front-end, supporting channels of ICP, Voltage or polarization microphones and two tacho inputs (for engine and vehicle speed input). State of the art PBN hardware from TESCON is used for the typical PBN accessories such as light barriers, weather station, sensors, etc.

The user is guided through the LMS Test.Lab software in an intuitive way from the test setup through the measurement and validation, to the reporting phase. The procedure is automatically determined by the standard or company target chosen and according to the vehicle parameters entered at the documentation stage. Parallel to the acquisition of the required measurement as specified in the standards, 3 additional slots are available on the SCADAS 305 for measurement of parameters measured in the vehicle, such as engine/vehicle speed or throttle kick-down transferred via telemetry.
The initial setup where no data is measured in the vehicle can be extended in two ways throught a TESCON telemetry device that transfers data, such as Engine speed, kick down and other slow signals, from vehicle to track. Alternatively, vehicle speed and laser barrier are additionally measured in-vehicle. All parameters are displayed on a laptop in the car to assist the driver. In that case, the track radar and light barriers are not necessary. An option for these setups is to use another telemetry device, the Digital Telemetry, so that dynamic channels can be acquired in-vehicle.
