Volume acceleration sound sources are sophisticated acoustic excitation devices that produce high levels of noise. This acoustic exciter covers the 200 to 8000 Hz frequency band and provides an accurate real-time reference signal of the acoustic source strength. The mid to high frequency source is a tube type of source, the sound is generated in a high pressure driver and transferred to the nozzle by a flexible tube. The nozzle will distribute the noise as a monopole source.
The instrumented nozzle emits noise through a small opening. It is so small that the omni-directionality of this source becomes comparable to that of a ½ inch microphone. The nozzle also allows positioning in narrow spaces around the engine, exhaust, under a dashboard etc.
The mid to high frequency volume acceleration sound source has a whole list of properties to recommend it: positioning flexibility, high impedance, compact size, omni-directionality, time stable sensitivity, high noise levels, and a real-time volume acceleration signal. These qualities make this device extremely accurate and efficient to use for the analysis of transportation vehicles like cars, vans, trucks, busses, trains and aircraft and their systems like engines, transmissions, dashboard modules.
In case the acoustic excitation device is used in a large (semi)anechoic chamber where long reference signal cable is required, a special ICP convertor (optional) will ensure a high signal-to-noise ratio.
The mid to high frequency source is typically used for Transfer Path Analysis of structure borne or airborne contribution, experimental SEA testing, vibro-acoustic modal analysis of smaller spaces, airborne isolation and radiation investigations, etc.
Since 1996 almost any OEM and many automotive suppliers in the world use the Mid Frequency Source for investigation and improvement of the acoustic performance of their products on component and complete system level.
To make full use of the source, the LMS Qsources Measurement Amplifier is perfectly suited to amplify the excitation signal from the LMS SCADAS III frontend.
